Functional Job Title: HS Executive Programs Consultant
Reports To: Executive Programs Manager
Line of Business: Human Systems
Effective Date: 12/2011



Primary Purpose:
Manage supplemental executive compensation arrangements; administer employment agreements for the Corporation and affiliates.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1. Manage supplemental executive retirement plans; ensure payments are in compliance with plan documents.
2. Manage supplemental executive life insurance arrangements; ensure accurate and timely receipt of premium payments and/or insurance proceeds that are to be returned to the company at the end of the arrangement.
3. Administer employment agreements; work with legal counsel to draft new agreements and ensure severance payments and benefits are processed in accordance with the agreements.
4. Counsel participants on plan provisions and benefits.
5. Ensure plans and arrangements conform to governmental regulations and rules.
6. Work with plan vendors to ensure accurate interpretation of plan language and consistent plan administration.
7. Work closely with BB&T Payroll and Accounts Payable Departments to ensure proper taxation and reporting of payments and income.
8. Work closely with BB&T Financial Management to ensure that payments are accrued and expensed according to accounting standards.
9. Consult with and counsel line of business managers regarding executive compensation issues.
10. Prepare reports for management.


Required Skills and Competencies:

1. Bachelor's degree in a business-related field or equivalent education and related training
2. Five years of work experience in compensation and benefits or a related area
3. Thorough knowledge and understanding of accounting and financial concepts especially as they relate to compensation and benefits including tax and accounting treatment, SEC regulations and filings, proxy disclosures, Internal Revenue Code Section 409A
4. Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
5. Strong attention to detail and sound judgment
6. Strong analytical and reasoning abilities
7. Ability to work with executives in a positive and professional manner
8. Demonstrated proficiency in various computer applications
9. Ability to travel, occasionally overnight


Desired Skills:
1. PHR/SPHR certification
2. Post-graduate work or degree
