in Kentfield, California, north of San Francisco. Founded in 1978, The
Croner Company provides high level consulting that enables companies to
make important decisions about compensation plans. The major activities
of the firm are advising clients in the development of compensation
programs and the publishing of comprehensive, industry-specific surveys
focused on pay, incentives, equity participation, and related reward
systems. While we specialize in compensation design in the industries

compensation consultants.
GENERAL SCOPE OF THE POSITION
This is a hands-on consulting position that will lead, participate in
and support multiple aspects of the firm's compensation consulting
activities. The Consultant participates in assigned consulting projects
undertaken by the firm, from the definition of the project objectives
and tasks, to analytical and field work in support of the partner
leading the project, to preparation and presentation of reports on
findings and recommendations. In addition, the position will be
responsible for researching and reporting on proxy and financial
statements, compensation survey data, and industry trends.
BACKGROUND AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
We are looking for an individual contributor with 3-5 years' experience
as a Compensation Consultant in a consulting firm. Proven success in
analyzing and creating compensation plans is required.
The ideal Consultant will have direct experience in the following areas:
• Designing short term incentive plans;
• Designing equity plans and programs;
• Analyzing executive and general compensation plans;
• Job analysis, marketing pricing and structuring of peer groups;
• Developing and testing models and implementation scenarios using
Microsoft Excel; and
• Developing recommendations and writing reports of findings,
observations and recommendations.
The ideal Consultant will have the following knowledge:
• Advanced understanding of compensation principles, including short
term incentive plans and equity vehicles;
• Knowledge of equity compensation and related tax, regulatory reporting
and accounting issues;
• Knowledge of SEC, legislative and regulatory guidelines and how to
research emerging issues;
• Excellent writing, PowerPoint and presentation skills;
• Strong personal organization and project management skills; and
• Zeal for producing the highest quality work for our clients, born out
of a passion for accuracy and curiosity about business, data and
findings.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Participates with the responsible engagement partner on the
development and documentation of the scope of assigned consulting
projects. Contributes to creating and presenting project proposals.
2. Conducts background research and analyses of client projects such as
current compensation practices, incentive plan features, stock option
granting guidelines, regulatory and related reporting and disclosure
issues and practices.
3. Participates with the engagement partner and project team in field
work at client sites that includes job analysis interviews, data
gathering and analysis, and interim reports.
4. Analyzes client data and practices and participates in the
development of conceptual approaches or alternatives to defined problems
and issues.
5. Drafts and edits job descriptions and job grids for a wide variety of
positions.
6. Conducts analysis of compensation plans and plan elements. Creates
and tests plan implementation models.
7. Identifies relevant compensation survey sources, matching client
positions to survey benchmarks and conducts competitive assessments of
clients' current compensation levels, using survey aggregation tools
such as MarketPay.
8. Assists in the development of short-term incentive plan features.
9. Assists in the development of long-term incentive plan features.
10. Works with the responsible engagement partner and project team in
the drafting, editing, presenting and revising of reports of findings,
observations and recommendations.
11. Conducts special research and analytical studies such as: company
backgrounds; industry trends; specific company or industry events or
programs; and legislation related to specific industries, etc.
12. Plans, develops and documents a variety of spreadsheet models
relating to linkages among positions, market "pricing" jobs, inventive
plan scenarios and related applications.
13. Creates and maintains various industry and firm databases on
compensation, financial results, job content, trends, etc.
