I have heard that many well qualified individuals have applied to this position however none of them have been hired. How can that be in this job market? What are these folks lacking; are the expectations for the position reasonable?

It just speaks to how tough this job market is. There are SO many well qualified folks looking for work that employers are convinced that their "ideal" candidate is out there, that if they just wait long enough he or she will emerge. It's not like 3 or 4 years ago, when certainly that position would have been filled by now. As one who is looking for work, I always have to remind myself that employers will hire me if I'm right for their situation, and I have to decide for myself whether they're right for me. It's akin to selling your house in a seller's market, you'll hold out for the right offer, while buyers walk away shocked that you turned down what they thought was a fantastic offer.  Folks who are persistent in looking for work will find it!

I know someone in the Comp dept at Facebook.  I will reach out to him and see if he can clarify what they are looking for in a candidate.

They DID fill the position, they had someone for seven months, but that person has recently resigned. Now they're looking again...

Thanks for the update. Hopefully I will also hear something back from them today.  If so, I will post details.
