Hi everyone,
I don't know if you have noticed, but the volume and
variation of articles has risen fairly dramatically during the past 4-6
weeks. Job postings are also up. Perhaps this means that we are truly
turning a corner. Let me know how things are going for you. Make sure you invite your colleagues and co-workers. Membership is STILL FREE.
You may have noticed that I came back from my self-imposed exile last week. I was busy helping produce ShareComp 2010, and more than 750 professionals have attended this unique event and thousands of documents and presentation have been viewed and downloaded.
As the market starts to return and jobs start to follow, it appears that we are seeing new focus and direction in the world of equity compensation. Surveys using data collected from 2009 are inconclusive. Some show growth in equity compensation, others show decline. Some are showing performance-based plans are the focus, others show that these programs are already waning. In addition, there seems to be a renwed interest in ESPP. What is your experience?
The NCEO is offering a new study on broad-based equity. Software and outsourcing providers are finally starting to get ahead of the regulatory and reporting changes. Option Exchanges have died down, but I think we may still be in for another wave in 2010.
It has now been about 10 years since the "DotCom Bust". I posted a recent article from the SF Chronicle that discusses the ripples created by this event. I still believe that the three year period of 1998-2000 skewed everyones perception of equity compensation and was a significant driver to some of the issues we are still dealing with today.
Lastly, many of you probably received multiple duplicate emails today from the ECE groupsite. This was caused by a glitch in our providers email servers and is being corrected. The duplicates should stop completely by later today.
If you have not yet connected directly with me, I hope you will send me a message or email so we can get to know each other. The ECE community has proven to be independent, vibrant and interactive and I would like to know each of you.
Let me know if you have any suggestions for improving the ECE.
Best Regards,
Dan
