How can the ECE be more useful or better (or is it perfect)?

I just sent this blast:

Hi Everyone,

Many of you may have noticed that currently I do most of the posting on the ECE site.  While I am happy to do this, it was certainly not my intent to make this the "Dan Walter" web site.  I want this site to grow and become a regular landing place for all of us.

Please let me know what can be done to help make the site more interactive. Also let me know if you are satisfied with how the ECE is currently working.  I want the ECE to evolve into a more interactive networking resource, where people are comfortable discussing topics, stating opinions and providing information.  How can we accomplish this?

There are a couple of things you might not know about the ECE.

  1. The discussion forums can be tracked automatically via an RSS feed.  You can get updated (outside of your email) any time there is an addition to a discussion forum that interests you (for example the "Job Board" or "Equity in the News").  Feel free to email me if you don't know about RSS readers.

  2. If you are a provider of services or software, you are welcome to post any marketing documentation, or presentations in the "Files and Media" area.  ECE members want to know what's out there.  Here's your chance to toot  your own horn for free.

  3. Recruiters and Staffing professionals are not being accepted as members.  All job postings require proactive contact on the part of ECE members.  The ECE member list is not made made public, nor will it be.  The ECE may begin charging non-ECE members a fee to post new jobs, this fee would most likely be used to off-set the costs of adding features to the ECE site.  ECE members will never be charged for posting jobs

  4. The Calendar can be updated by anyone.  Please post local events on the Calendar.  If you think ECE members would be interested, then feel free to post.  If the event is FREE make sure it is noted in the title.

  5. You can invite new members directly from the web site.  You probably shouldn't be the only member at your company.  Invite people from the other areas at your company that touch equity comp plans.  The articles posted here should appeal to a wide array of areas.  Current ECE members represent every department and profession that deals with these plans.

I hope you are finding the ECE useful and look forward to your comments on how it can be improved.

Regards and have a great week,

My hat's off to Dan for creating ECE!  The updates, digest and calendar are very helpful.

I think that the biggest challenge to members/contributors is how darn busy we all are!  It's difficult to find the time to post new information, and easy to rely on Dan as our moderator to "do that for us."Wink

Perhaps there are additional ways to automate the site or the instructions could be condensed so that we can share/post information with just a click or two?  Thank you.

Perhaps using a weekly quick survey and related dicussion forum on a variety of topics would bring people together to share best practices and opinions.

Shame on us for not taking more advantage of this resource.  I appreciate that this group exists but must admit that i have not taken advantage of its features.  Dan, these occasional reminders are helpful to let us know we are not islands out there!

One suggestion (or two):  might we start some discussion related to the topics which will be discussed at the next NASPP meeting in October?  Are we planning a mixer during this event to actually meet some of the folks in the ECE? There's a lot to be said for virtual groups but I've got some old school in me and it certainly helps to strengthen relationships if we took opportunities to meet, see and talk with our colleagues.

Thanks for the quick response.  I am happy you find the ECE to be a good resource.

Answers to the first few questions:

  • Perhaps there are additional ways to automate the site or the
instructions could be condensed so that we can share/post information
with just a click or two?

DW - Good point. I will look into this.  I may need to upgrade the web site, which would cost a bit of money.  Perhaps we can generate that my charging for non-member jobs postings that or currently free.  Maybe I can create forums for each provider.

  • Perhaps using a weekly quick survey and related discussion forum on a
variety of topics would bring people together to share best practices
    and opinions.

DW - I really like this idea.  I will start this week.  We will refer to it at the Mid-Week Survey.  Look for it tomorrow.

  • Might we start some discussion related to the topics which will be discussed at the next NASPP meeting in October?
DW - This is a great focus for our new Mid-Week Surveys.  I will start tomorrow.  Let me know if there are any particular topics you would like to start with.

  • Are we planning a mixer during this event to actually meet some of the folks in the ECE?
DW - I think this would be a great idea.  In fact, we should plan for face-to-face meetings at all industry events.  July and August are slow, but The fall will have several events.  If you are going to attend an event please make sure it is on the calendar.  I will also create a new discussion forum called "Get Together".  This forum will be focused on threads for face-to-face meetings.  It can also be a place for members to post when they are going to be traveling on business.  You never know if someone will want to meet with you while you happen to be nearby.

Keep the suggestions coming!
