Social Security Tax Wage Base Increase in 2020

Along with the 1.6% increase in Social Security benefits in 2020 https://www.ssa.gov/news/press/releases/2019/#10-2019-1 you have an increase in the wage base maximum for the 6.2% Social Security tax from $132,900 to $137,700.


This means the maximum that can be withheld in 2020 is $8537.4 up from $8,239.80 in 2019. This tax applies to most forms of stock compensation (not ISOs or tax-qualified ESPPs).
