When does it make sense to replace Excel spreadsheets as your primary tool for FAS 123R stock option valuation work?

Lots of our customers are on the record that they save at least a week of work and many thousands of dollars on their audits by getting away from spreadsheets for their FAS 123R stock option valuations (let alone what they save on the option adminstration). But I'm also often told by prospects that they can't cost justify it. Who's right? There doesn't seem to be any pattern in terms of age of option plan, size, etc.

Doug,
My opinion only:
I think many companies get the concept of valuation (the act of creating the value) confued with the act of creating the values, attaching them to grants, tracking any changes to the values etc...
The can be done in a spreadsheet, although i would not generally recommend it.
The second requires a systematic approach, with audit trails, if a company is to have any level of comfort.
