Lawmakers still seek AMT fix

April 7, 2009, 6:01 AM EST

A Senate bill introduced last month seeks to limit the number of
taxpayers subjected to the alternative minimum tax. Sponsored by Sen.
Max Baucus, D-Mont., S 722 includes a provision to freeze AMT exemption
amounts at 2009 levels and index them for inflation in future years.
The Senate bill joins two House bills that deal with the controversial
tax. Both HR 240 and HR 782 would fully abolish the AMT. For a look at
these bills, visit thomas.loc.gov/.
